We're delighted to announce our new community - "2nd Careers for Women"

2nd Careers is expanding its mission. We’re delighted to announce our new community - “2nd Careers for Women”.

Why 2nd Careers for Women?

When 2nd Careers launched 18 months ago, it was built on one belief - career reinvention is possible at any stage, with the right support. That belief built a community of senior professionals across Technology, HR, Sales and Marketing, Finance, and General Management —one that extends, pivots, and restarts with purpose.

Today, we are opening that same ecosystem, with programs built specifically for women professionals across career stages.

7 million women in India alone are actively seeking to return to work. 38 million job applications were submitted in 2025. And career transitions can be difficult without structured support.

Why is 2ndCareers.com Launching a Women’s Cohort — and Why It’s Personal

By [Sushma Rajagopalan]

I still remember the conversation clearly.

She was smart, accomplished, and completely stuck. Years of experience under her belt. A track record that spoke for itself. And yet, when I asked her what she really wanted — not what she thought was possible, but what she wanted — she went quiet. I prompted her with - why not a career in sales, and eventually aspire to be a C level Leader?

Then she said, "I think I am good where I am and I am not sure what else I can do. What if I fail? Will I have my job back?

That sentence stopped me cold. And I quickly said to myself that guidance and mentorship is key. I urged her to try sales and offered her mentorship. I firmly believe that we all have multiple talents and have to work at using that talent. This coupled with the major shifts in employment trends led. Me to co-found 2ndCareers.com. Long before I understood that a second career isn’t a consolation prize — it’s an invitation.

The Career That Taught Me Everything (Including When to Leave)

After 32years in the technology industry, I had climbed a ladder that, at some point, made me seek newer experiences. I had built teams, navigated boardrooms, travelled globally to build the business and delivered results — and somewhere along the way, I began to wonder whose definition of success I was actually chasing.

Leaving wasn’t easy. It never is when your identity has been tied to a title for decades. But stepping away from that chapter was the single most clarifying decision I’ve ever made. It forced me to get honest about what I was good at, what I cared about, and — most importantly — everything I wanted to do in life. I wanted to learn new things, excel at the new things I learn, be monetarily rewarded, help others and build my 2nd. Career. Yes, I wanted it all.

The answer came quickly: 3 things Pivot to a new line of work where my CEO and industry knowledge would be an asset; keep me in the entrepreneurial world and help women. Specifically, women standing at the edge of something new, something bigger, something theirs — and talking themselves out of it. Thus began my 2nd Career and my portfolio life – a Venture Capitalist; the Co-Founder of 2ndCareers and A mentor and a coach to women leaders and entrepreneurs.

What Mentorship Taught Me About What Women Really Need

When I began mentoring women in career transition, I expected to be teaching strategy. Resume positioning. Networking frameworks. How to pitch. How to negotiate.

And yes, we covered all of that.

But what actually moved the needle — every single time — was something softer and more powerful: permission. Permission to be ambitious without apology. Permission to call themselves a leader before someone else handed them the title. Permission to bet on themselves the way they’d always bet on everyone else.

The woman I mentioned at the beginning of this piece? She eventually stepped into a senior leadership role she had been quietly dreaming about for years. She didn’t need a new set of skills. She needed a mirror — someone who could reflect back what was already there and say, “Yes. That’s real. Go.”

That is the work I was born to do. Make a difference, one person, one woman at a time!

So Why a Women’s Cohort? Why Now?

Because one conversation at a time isn’t enough anymore.

The women I meet are navigating a unique and often invisible pressure: they’re accomplished enough that asking for help feels like weakness, and uncertain enough that going it alone feels terrifying. They sit in that gap — overqualified and under-positioned — longer than they should.

When women move through a transformation together, something shifts. The self-doubt that felt so personal starts to feel universal. The ambition that felt like arrogance starts to feel like clarity. And the path forward — whether that means launching a business, stepping into executive leadership, or completely reinventing a career — becomes something you build in community, not in isolation.

Entrepreneurship . For the women who are ready to build something of their own, we provide practical, hands-on guidance — from validating your idea and defining your audience, to structuring your offer and stepping into the market with confidence.

In full disclosure some of these are being developed and will evolve over time.

An Invitation

If any part of this resonates with you — if you’ve had that quiet voice telling you there’s something more — I want you to know that voice is right.

You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to be willing to show up.

The 2ndCareers Women’s Cohort is for the woman who is done waiting for the “right time” and ready to create it. It’s for the woman who has given so much of herself to building other people’s dreams and is finally ready to build her own.

Three women have founded 2ndCareers – Shanthi Naresh (ex-Partner Mercer), Sudha Srinivasan ( ex-Intel, Ex-CEO Nudge Institute and a healthcare advocate) and myself.
